We are sad to report that Richard “Chewy” Neville died at his mother’s home on Thursday, August 15, 2013. Chewy was well-known to those of you who served as chaperones in our Overnights of Hospitality program as he was one of our regular guests for many years. Please hold his mom in your prayers.
Our Annual Golf Tournament, held on June 24, 2013 at Souther’s Marsh, netted $12,000 for our organization! Many thanks to John Malloy and Barbara Wojtklewicz who did most of the organizing and recruiting for golfers. Also, thanks to all our board and other members who brought in sponsors, auction donations, and who helped on the day of the tournament.
Overnights of Hospitality
We are in the process of gearing up to begin our tenth season for the Overnights of Hospitality. Unfortunately, this season will be more of a challenge as we lost the First Parish Unitarian Church as one of our host sites. Having a very small congregation has made it difficult for them to find members willing to take on the responsibility for coordinating the program there. First Parish was one of our founding members and has served as a site since the beginning. We are truly grateful to its members for their service and participation. We also lost Beth Jacob when it sold its Community Center. As a result, we will have to shorten the season by five weeks.
Hoping to find other sites, the board has reached out to all the known churches, without success. If anyone has any ideas, please contact us email@example.com.
We have tentatively set Sunday, October 13, 2013 for training of volunteers, beginning at 4 PM at Christ Church. This year, We will Have Aiden Maselbach, an outreach worker, who will talk about techniques for interacting with our guests who come to the shelter.
